THE METAL BEHIND THE HERITAGE
Kansa belongs to the family of traditional copper-based alloys that played an important role in India’s metalworking traditions.
Historically, Kansa vessels were valued for their:
- Durability— designed for years of regular use.
• Heat behaviour— metal naturally transfers and distributes heat differently from ceramics or glass.
• Distinctive resonance — the alloy’s acoustic properties have also made bell metal important in bells, gongs and ceremonial objects.
• Patina — its surface naturally evolves with age, giving older pieces a character that newly manufactured utensils cannot replicate.
• Craftsmanship — traditional Kansa articles have been produced through techniques including casting, shaping, hammering and polishing.
This is why an authentic Kansa utensil doesn’t have to look artificially perfect. Small variations in tone, texture and finish can be evidence of its handcrafted character.
CARE THAT PRESERVES THE METAL
